Best 8 days tour from Marrakesh to Casablanca

Day 1: Marrakech Boumalne Dades

Your 8-day adventure begins after breakfast with a departure from your Marrakech accommodation. Ascend into the High Atlas Mountains, traversing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260m), where winding roads reveal breathtaking, panoramic landscapes.

Pause to explore the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a remarkable fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site, followed by lunch nearby. Journey onwards towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert” and home to renowned film studios (an optional visit can be arranged). Continue through the fragrant Rose Valley (Kelaat M’Gouna), arriving in the scenic Boumalne Dades valley for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Boumalne Dades →  Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, today’s journey takes you towards the magnificent Sahara Desert. Travel through captivating landscapes and Berber villages to reach the impressive Todra Gorges. Marvel at the towering canyon walls, reaching up to 300 meters high, and enjoy a short walk through this natural wonder. Lunch will be at a local restaurant en route.

Continuing via Erfoud, known for its fossil treasures and considered the gateway to the Sahara, you’ll arrive in Merzouga by the afternoon. Here, your camels await to guide you on an unforgettable trek across the stunning Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Witness a breathtaking Saharan sunset from a high dune, capturing incredible photos. Afterwards, arrive at your traditional desert camp for a memorable night featuring Berber music, dinner, and stargazing under the vast desert sky.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert Fes

Wake early to experience the magical spectacle of a Sahara sunrise painting the dunes with color, followed by breakfast at the camp. Depart Merzouga, travelling via Erfoud and Errachidia. Admire the vast Ziz Valley, a lush green oasis dotted with thousands of palm groves, stopping for photos at a panoramic viewpoint. Your journey continues to Midelt, nestled in the Atlas Mountains and renowned for its apple orchards, where you’ll pause for lunch.

Afterwards, drive through scenic mountain villages towards the cedar forests of Azrou, home to communities of Barbary macaques – enjoy a brief stop to observe these playful monkeys in their natural habitat. Pass through the charming town of Ifrane, often called ‘Little Switzerland’ for its alpine architecture and cleanliness, noting its stone lion statue, before reaching the ancient imperial city of Fes for your overnight stay.

Day 4: Fes →  Chefchaouen

Following breakfast in Fes, your journey continues north towards the captivating ‘Blue City’ of Chefchaouen. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Rif Mountains, taking in beautiful landscapes and passing traditional mountain villages along the way. Upon arrival in Chefchaouen in the afternoon, check into your riad. The rest of the day is yours to independently explore this charming, easily walkable medina. Lose yourself in its uniquely blue-washed streets, browse local crafts, and soak up the relaxed atmosphere before settling in for the night.

Day 5: Chefchaouen →  Tangier

Enjoy breakfast before departing Chefchaouen. Today’s drive takes you towards Tangier, traversing more of the scenic Rif Mountains and passing through small towns. Your first major stop is Tetouan, known as the ‘White Dove,’ notable for its distinct Hispano-Moorish architecture and its well-preserved medina (a UNESCO World Heritage site) located near the Mediterranean coast. Afterwards, continue to the legendary port city of Tangier, historically a strategic point on the Strait of Gibraltar, serving as a gateway between Africa and Europe and now a major economic hub. Arrive in the afternoon, check into your hotel, and enjoy some free time to begin exploring this fascinating city before your overnight stay.

Day 6: Tangier →  Asilah

After breakfast, depart Tangier and follow the scenic Atlantic coastal road south to the charming seaside town of Asilah. This delightful cultural hub is renowned for its well-preserved, white-washed medina, famous for the vibrant murals adorning its walls (often updated during its annual arts festival). Arrive with ample time to explore its historic ramparts, artistic streets, and coastal views. After lunch at a local restaurant featuring fresh seafood perhaps, check into your hotel/riad. Enjoy free time in the afternoon, maybe followed by a pleasant evening stroll through the relaxed town before retiring for the night.

Day 7: Asilah Rabat

Following breakfast, continue your journey south along the Atlantic coast towards Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Enjoy the coastal views during the drive, stopping for lunch en route. Upon arrival in Rabat, situated where the Bouregreg River meets the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll visit key landmarks showcasing its rich Islamic and French-colonial heritage. This includes the iconic Hassan Tower, the impressive minaret of an unfinished 12th-century mosque, and the nearby opulent Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Afterwards, check into your hotel for the overnight stay.

Day 8: Rabat →  Casablanca

On your final morning, travel from Rabat along the coast to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and dynamic economic heart. The highlight here is a visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the world, dramatically situated overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Admire its intricate architecture, stunning details, and grand scale. (Note: Interior visits are subject to specific visiting hours/days and require an entrance fee; exterior viewing is always possible).
